Hands-on training in reconstructive, burns and aesthetic plastic surgery.

Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery training

Training mode

You join the plastic and reconstructive surgery department as a fellow under an assigned senior consultant, one-to-one, for the full placement.

  • In theatre: you scrub in from the start. Your role grows from tissue handling and closure to flap design and raising, as your consultant judges you ready.
  • In clinic: you assess wounds and defects with your consultant and take part in reconstruction planning.
  • On the ward: you follow flap monitoring, burns care and dressings.
  • Academic: you take part in the department's case discussions.

Your actual level of involvement (observing, assisting, or performing steps under supervision) is decided by your supervising consultant, based on your previous experience, skills, competency, and overall performance.
