Pediatric Orthopedic Fellowship

Hands-on training in children's orthopaedics, from deformity correction to paediatric trauma.

Pediatric Orthopedic training

Training mode

You join the paediatric orthopaedic unit as a fellow under an assigned senior consultant, one-to-one, for the full placement.

  • In theatre: you scrub in on paediatric orthopaedic lists from the start. Your role grows from positioning and casting to fixation and correction steps, as your consultant judges you ready.
  • In clinic: you assess children with deformities and fractures alongside your consultant, including Ponseti casting clinics.
  • After surgery: you follow your patients through casting, bracing and recovery.
  • Academic: you take part in the department's case discussions.

Your actual level of involvement (observing, assisting, or performing steps under supervision) is decided by your supervising consultant, based on your previous experience, skills, competency, and overall performance.
