Advanced Cardiovascular Imaging training

Training mode

You join the cardiac imaging department as a fellow under an assigned senior consultant, one-to-one, for the full placement.

  • At the scanner: you learn protocol selection, ECG gating, contrast timing and patient preparation for cardiac CT and MRI.
  • In the reporting room: you read and report studies alongside your consultant, building structured reports from acquisition to conclusion.
  • In the echo lab: you perform transthoracic studies and take part in transoesophageal studies under supervision.
  • Heart team: you present imaging findings in interventional and surgical planning meetings.

Your actual level of involvement (observing, assisting, or performing steps under supervision) is decided by your supervising consultant, based on your previous experience, skills, competency, and overall performance.
